Giving to a Foundation is not just for the wealthy. The Foundation is not intended to replace our members’ normal giving practices. However, there are many ways individuals of any income status can give gifts that will carry on a legacy to future generations without sacrificing their current lifestyle or provisions for the ones they love. Your professional advisor, accountant, or legal counsel can suggest several options that may be available and beneficial to you. Please prayerfully consider the Foundation in your planning.

Did You Know … Giving to a Foundation is Easy. Here are some other ways to donate:

Bequests
Many people feel that it may be difficult or complicated to make a special donation of money or property to a foundation at death. The simplest way to leave a gift is with a bequest. A bequest is simply an instruction by the donor stating how much or what property goes to the foundation. The bequest is fully deductible to the estate. The foundation can then take the burden off the estate or heirs by working through any issues with the sale or processing of the property. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.

Life Insurance
Life insurance is one of the easiest means of giving a major gift at a modest cost to the Donor. You may be eligible for a tax deduction by transferring ownership of the insurance policy to The Foundation of the Master, making future premiums deductible. If the Foundation is merely named as a beneficiary no income tax deduction is allowed, but an estate deduction may be allowed at death. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.

Remainder Interest in Property
You can donate a personal residence or farm to a foundation and reserve the right to live there for life (or for joint lifetimes). A “personal residence” can include a second home. You may be able to deduct immediately the present value of the foundation’s remainder interest with certain limitations. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.

Charitable Lead Trust
A charitable lead trust gives you the ability to donate the income from the trust to The Foundation of the Master for a period of years without donating the asset or property to the Foundation. You may be able to deduct the income generated from a lease or rental of the property and still retain the ownership of the property for your estate. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust
A Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT) is a lesser-known way of making a donation to The Foundation of the Master. The CRAT receives a gift and pays the donor a return of at least 5% of the initial principle (or value) for life, or for a period of up to 20 years. A CRAT can only receive a single contribution. No capital gains tax is paid if appreciated property is transferred to the CRAT. The donor can deduct immediately the present value of the charity’s remainder interest with limitations. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.

Charitable Remainder Uni-Trust
A Charitable Remainder Uni-Trust (CRUT) receives a gift and pays the donor a return of at least 5% of the annual value of the trust principal for life or for a period of up to 20 years. The CRUT can be started and receive unlimited additional contributions. If the value goes up so does the payout amount. No capital gains tax is paid if appreciated property is transferred to the CRUT. The donor can deduct immediately the present value of the trust’s remaining interest in the CRUT with limitations. Your professional advisor or legal counsel can help you with this easy plan.
